This course introduces fundamental concepts in statistics and probability, essential building blocks for social science research. Students learn descriptive and inferential statistics with an emphasis on conceptual understanding and hands-on statistical software application. The course focuses on big-picture questions: what are we trying to understand, and what conclusions can we draw from our analyses? Using state-of-the-art software tools, students analyze real data from various social science disciplines. By the semester's end, students key concepts including population-sample relationships, experimental design, hypothesis testing, and statistical communication.
