This course introduces analytical methods used to identify patterns in political phenomena and test hypotheses about world politics. Students learn to analyze relationships between abstract concepts like democracy, wealth, and power. The course covers four main areas: (1) foundations of analytical thinking including logic and basic mathematics, (2) quantitative data literacy for analyzing global power dynamics and conflict patterns, (3) fundamentals of probability for understanding uncertainty in political events, and (4) decision theory and game theory for analyzing strategic behavior of political actors. Through these tools, students develop the ability to evaluate political science theories with empirical evidence and contribute to policy-making processes.
